Urban Development and Housing Minister Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday instructed relevant authorities to prepare a plan to prevent flooding in Gampaha while making the entire district more livable and all the government institutions to join hands in preparing the national plan in this regard.
The Minister was participating in the Ja-Ela Divisional Coordination Committee meeting yesterday at the Ja-Ela Divisional Secretariat. Funds will be allocated for the programme after discussions with relevant government institutions. If the canals get blocked, Minuwangoda and Gampaha will be submerged. Therefore, all canals, rivers, and waterways in the entire district will be cleaned.
The Minister advised the relevant officials to take measures to grant housing loans and commence other assisting programmes for the people in the District. “We have to complete all the ongoing programmes first. All outstanding installments for housing loans and other aids due in 2020, 2021, and 20222 will be paid when the relevant authorities get the money. In the second phase, money will be given to improve houses," he added.
