Kandy Sports Club's Tharinda Ratwatte kicks ahead in their Nippon Paint Cup Championship match against Havelocks SC at Nittawela yesterday.

Defending champions and present table leaders unbeaten Kandy Sports Club as expected beat Havelock Sports Club convincingly in the Inter Club “A” division Nippon Paint second round Cup competition rugby match played yesterday at Nittawela. It was Kandy SC’s eighth consecutive win this season. The tally comprised 29 points which came off three goals, one try and one penalty kick to 8 points by Havelocks (a try and a penalty).

Kandy Sports Club rugger players kept their winning streak by playing a good game of run and pass rugby, in the same manner the Havelock SC rugger players though they lost, also played good rugby and it was Havelock SC who scored first off a penalty. And at half time Kandy Sc led 19-03. For Kandy SC it was skipper Damith Dissanayake, Fawmy Wajid and Tharindu Chathurange who scored the tries and two of them were goaled by Tharindu Ratwatte. The penalty for Havelock SC was goaled by Sheehan Dias.

In the second half Kandy SC took control of the game and confined Havelock SC to their territory. They had ambled possession, and the defense was able to ward off the attack and played a good game. In the second half, Kandy Sports Club enjoyed a good game and went on to score through Dinal Ekanayake, the kicking part was done by Tharindu Ratwatte. For Havelock SC Winger Ramesh Fernando scored an unconverted try.

The match winning Kandy SC has one more game that is against CR & FC next Sunday at Nittawela, which too is likely to be going in Kandy's favour to keep the title in the hills oncce again. A big hand should go to the players for their superb performance in the all the victories and coach Fazil Marija, for doing a good job.

Kandy Sports Club has won a league title more than any other club. This club has been the most successful club in the Sri Lanka Rugby Championship, winning 23 league titles in the last twenty nine years during the period between 1994 and 2023, which is the most wins by any club since the expanded competition commenced in 1950.
