Rs.468 mn allocated for pregnant mother’s nutrition

Monthly allowance increased to Rs.4500 from January

The Children, Women Affairs and Social Empowerment Ministry has allocated Rs.468 million to provide nutritious food to pregnant mothers.

Child, Women Affairs and Social Empowerment State Minister Geetha Kumarasinghe said the monthly amount of Rs.2,000 will be increased to Rs.4,500 from January 2023.

She expressed these views while participating in the discussion held in the ministry with the officials of the institutions belonging to the ministry. She said that this allowance can be availed through the Divisional Secretariats for expectant mothers in families whose monthly income is less than Rs.50,000.

The State Minister said that this allowance will be given to one pregnant mother from 4 months to 10 months amounting to Rs. 45,000. She added that it will be given to that group from February 15, including January 2023, by spending Rs.468 million.

The ministry secretary and a group of officials participated in this event.
