No power cuts till HRCSL petition is determined - CEB

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) assured the Supreme Court yesterday (2) that electricity will not be interrupted until the petition filed by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka regarding non-provision of electricity during the time of the A-Level Examination is considered today (3).

 President’s Counsel Uditha Igalahewa, who appeared for the Ceylon Electricity Board made this promise when the complaint filed against the Ceylon Electricity Board, the Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and others was summoned before the court

The Commission filed a complaint before the Supreme Court against the CEB, Power and Energy Ministry Secretary and several others for insulting the Human Rights Commission by violating the agreement reached not to cut power during the hearing.

The petition was called before the three-judge bench of the Supreme Court consisting of Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Yasantha Kodagoda and Shiran Gunaratne.

President’s Counsel Upul Jayasuriya, who appeared for the complainant Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission stated before court that the respondents had given a promise before the commission that electricity will not be interrupted during the Advanced Level Examination from January 23 to February 17.
