Sri Lanka enjoyed a successful opening day of the ITF Junior Circuit Week-1 Tennis Tournament, which commenced at the SLTA Clay Courts in Green Path, Colombo yesterday.
Both Dinara de Silva and Saajida Razick were able to clear their first hurdle of the Girls’ Singles Tournament while recording contrasting victories in their respective opening matches.
Promising Dinara powered her way to a smashing straight-set 6-4, 6-2 victory over Silvia Caliman of Spain and went on to secure her place in the second-round of the competition.
In contrast, Saajida was stretched to a three-setter as she came from behind with a magnificent performance to beat Gagana Mohal of India 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
