The Police who brought six bald-headed youths who were behaving in a suspicious manner in front of the Kandy Clock Tower at around 1.00 am for questioning yesterday has found out that they are Buddhist Monks.
Kandy Police Headquarters Chief Inspector Rasika Sampath, suspicious of the drunken behavior of these youths, had asked for their identity cards. As they failed to present their identity cards, they were taken to Police custody and further inquiries made.
At that time, these youths presented the identity cards of monks.Police investigations reveal that they came to a restaurant in Kandy city wearing civilian clothes and consumed alcohol.
Police have taken steps to inform the Chief Incumbents of the respective temples in order to ascertain whether they are still resident in those temples or whether they have left the Monkhood.
