Skipper Angelo Mathews (20) and Ravi Bopara (43) added an unbroken 65 runs for the fourth wicket as Colombo Stars recorded a seven-wicket win over Galle Gladiators in their eliminator game of the LPL cricket tournament played at R. Premadasa yesterday.
It was a good comeback for Colombo Stars even though they started the tournament with a disappointing performance but have sealed their spot in Qualifier 2 where they will face Kandy Falcons.
Galle Gladiators’ Sahan Arachchige made a fighting knock of 53 but it was in vain. Kasun Ranjitha and Suranga Lakmal did the early damage for Colombo while Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammed Nabi who took 2 for 20 made a valiant effort as he helped the Galle side post a challenging total.
The Man of the Match, Ravi Bopara was the saving grace for the Colombo side scoring a superb knock of 43.
The game was reduced to 18 overs per side due to bad weather which led to a one-hour delay at 8.30 pm
