Educational Exchanges and Collaboration Between China and Sri Lanka Strengthens

The Inauguration Ceremony Held by the University of Kelaniya for the Master of Business Studies Programme Concludes Successfully

The year 2022 saw the 65th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Sri Lanka and the 70th Anniversary of the Signing of the Rubber-Rice Pact.On10thDecember, the inauguration ceremony for the Master of Business Studiesprogramme,sponsored by the University of Kelaniya, co-sponsored by the Sri Lankan Embassy in China, the International Academic Exchange Committee of the China-Asia Economic Development Association (CAEDA), and BeautifulHuaxia Investment (Beijing) Co., Ltd., and organised by Tomorrow Technology Education Service Center (TTESC) took place, with the aim of responding tothe “Belt and Road” initiative, deepening the sincere and mutually beneficiary traditional friendship” between China and Sri Lanka, and improving the cooperation between the two countries in the field of educational exchanges.

The inauguration ceremony washeld through videoconferencing, with the main venue at the University of Kelaniya in Sri Lankaand the sub-venueat the International Academic Exchange Committee of CAEDA in Beijing. The ceremonywas also broadcastsimultaneously over the cloud.

Dr. M.M.M. Shamil from the University of Kelaniya delivered an opening speech at the beginning of the ceremony. In his speech, Dr. Shamir extended a warm welcome to the students of the Master of Business Studies programme offered by theUniversity of Kelaniya.Then he gave a brief introduction tothe programme, including the teaching objectives, the courses, and the teachers, hoping to let the students have a preliminary understanding of the programmein which they would spend a year studying.

In his speech, Palitha Kohona, Sri Lankan ambassador to China, mentioned that Fa Xian, a prestigious Chinese monk who lived in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, went to Sri Lanka to study Buddhism 1500 years ago. He said thatthe friendship between the two peoples, which has lasted for over 1,000 years, will never come to an end. Mr. Kohona expressed his great pleasure in participating in theinauguration ceremony on behalf of the Sri Lankan Embassy in China. “I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to Tomorrow Technology Education Service Center. You have made enormous efforts in promoting the Master of Business Studies programme and some other programmes forthe University of Kelaniya within such a short period of time. This is another brilliant achievement ofcommunication and cooperation between China and Sri Lanka in the field of education,” Mr. Kohona said.

Wang Kejian, executive vice president of the China-Asia Economic Development Association and vice president of the Southeast Asia and South Asia Branch of the Western Returned Scholars Association (Overseas-educated Scholars Association of China), mentioned in his speech that Sri Lanka is a “shining, fertile paradise”and that apart from being known as a “world-famous tourist destination,”a “Buddhist holy land,”a “land of gemstones,”the “origin of Ceylon black tea,”and the “country of smiling people”, Sri Lanka also boasts an advanced education system comprised ofabundant educational resources. As asplendid paradigm of the country’s public universities, the University of Kelaniya attracts outstanding students from all over the world, and its business education has reached the world-class level. Mr. Wang expressed his hope that the students can study hard, gain knowledge, and broaden their horizons for their future development. He also hoped that the studentswill be able to act as envoy of cultural exchanges between China and Sri Lankaand carry forwardthetraditional friendship between the two countries which has been fostered by previous generations.

Senior Professor Nilanthi de Silva, vice chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, attended the ceremony at the main venue. Ms. Silva expressed her exhilaration of seeing the enthusiastic students at the ceremony and promised that they wouldtake advantage of their professionalism to provide the students with abundant business knowledge and high-quality teaching services. At the end of her speech, she wishedevery student a fruitful and wonderful postgraduate yearatthe University of Kelaniya.

Tomorrow Technology Education Service Center has been devoting itself to the field of international education, promoting educational and cultural exchanges at home and abroad and integrating global educational resources.Relying on a highly efficient and professional service personnel from home and abroad, TTESC explores a multi-level business layoutfor providing services for overseas study, carries out international educational exchanges in various forms, andmakes every effort to work with colleges and universities both at home and abroad,with the aim ofmaking Chinese studentsincreasingly competitivein the international academic arena.

This year, TTESC has started collaborations with a number of Sri Lankan universities including the University of Colombo, the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, the University of Kelaniya, and the University of Peradeniya, and became the officially authorised recruitment institution for them in Mainland China. Therefore,PalithaKohona, Sri Lankan ambassador to China, awarded TTESC the honorary certificate in recognition of our contributions to the educational and cultural exchanges between China and Sri Lanka.

Dr. P.N.D. Fernando, dean of the Faculty of Commerce & Management Studies of the University of Kelaniya, and Senior Professor Kapila Seneviratne, dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, introduced their respective faculties and expressed a warm welcome to the students who had been admitted to the Master of Business Studies programme. In closing, Dr. MadurikaNanayakkarafrom the University of Kelaniya expressed her thanks to all the participants present at the ceremony.

More than 100 people, including Liu Xiaoyun, deputy director of Tomorrow Technology Education Service Center, Yang Bing, general manager of Nod (Beijing) International Education Technology Co., Ltd., and our business partners and friends from all walks of life,attended the inauguration ceremony.
