Morocco reached the 2022 FIFA World Cup quarter-finals when they edged out Spain 3-0 on penalties after an enthralling round of 16 encounter played at the Education City Stadium in Doha, Qatar yesterday.
The match ended 0-0 even after the extra time and Morocco held their nerves to score three goals during the shootout and became the fourth African team to reach the World Cup quarter-finals, and the first since Ghana in 2010.
This was also Morocco's first win over Spain having lost twice and drawn one game in three previous meetings.
Morocco made just one change from the 2-1 victory over Canada in the final group game while Spain made five changes to the side that were shocked 2-1 by Japan in their previous game. (C.D)
