We are confident of hosting the third edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) and the five teams of the last two editions will battle it out said Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela at a press briefing held at the SLC Auditorium yesterday.

The third edition of the LPL is going to be a big challenge as for the first time it will be played at three venues, Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium Hambantota, Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and the final stage at R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium.

We had an idea to conduct this third LPL last August but due to the country’s situation we had to postpone it to from December 6 to 24 and the same-player draft will be used for the event said Samantha.

Actually this LPL has already drafted players and selected Managers and supporting staff for each and every team while due to changes of the dates there are a few changes especially England, Australia cricketers will not be in the teams due to their heavy schedule. Former Sri Lanka coach Mickey Arthur will be attached to Galle Gladiators team. In addition, there will be a few changes in the supporting staff and whose names will be released very soon.

Actually this LPL will give vital exposure for Sri Lankan cricketers and they have a good chance to play with International players and getting good guidance from renowned coaches and SLC staff and all committees including sponsorship and marketing are giving tremendous support to make this a success.

Every team has good sponsors. The Secretary of the SLC Mohan de Silva said Sri Lanka Cricket is happy to conduct this LPL during this hard period and it’s going to be a boost for the country’s economy and dollar crisis and SLC will give maximum support to the Government.
