Gateway College, Colombo emerged champions of the 2022 Inter-International Schools Under-20 Football Tournament when they defeated Alethea International School 5-1 in the final encounter played at the Gateway Grounds in Ratmalana.
The unbeaten Gateway Team continued with their outstanding form in this tournament and took a 2-1 lead at half time before adding three more goals to their tally to complete a rousing victory in the end.
Even then, it was Alethea who drew first blood as they completely surprised their more fancied opponents with a superb field goal inside the first five minutes of play.
However, Gateway settled down beautifully and produced the equaliser almost immediately with an excellent long-range kick that completely mesmerised the Alethea goalkeeper.
Thereafter, Gateway took the game under control and went ahead shortly before half time before dominating the entire second half with a good all-round display.
Gateway, of course, completely dominated this tournament and ended up having scored 39 goals and conceding just two goals to their opponents.
They started their campaign with a massive 17-0 win over the Asian International School and outplayed Elizabeth Moir International School 5-1 in their second outing.
Gateway had the better of Lyceum, Wattala 4-1 in the quarter-finals and they went on to beat the Royal Institute 8-0 in the semi-final encounter.
