‘Lanka Challenge Tuk Tuk’ to be held in Colombo next year

Sri Lanka will host three ‘Lanka Challenge Tuk Tuk’ (world-famous three-wheeled adventure) events next year bringing high destination value and revenue to the country.

The TukTuk Tournament is a two-week event that combines the best of independent and group travel experiences into a competition where they travel all over Sri Lanka for nearly 10 days. “The event carries huge global media coverage and as it explores the wild and less travelled territory in the many Provinces of Sri Lanka covering nearly 1,000 KM and it gives a huge destination promotion for these areas.”

He recalled that Lanka Challenge Tuk Tuk’ was the first event that went to Jaffna soon after ending hostilities.

Connaissance de Ceylan (Pvt) Ltd Chairman Chandra Wickremesinghe said at the WTM London that they plan to host the events in April, July and September. Connaissance de Ceylan Director Maxime Wickremesinghe said that they met the top organizers for the event in London who assures them that they are keen to host the event in Sri Lanka. “They have already got nearly 100 participants for the first event from 15 countries.”

The Challenge is broken up into various driving legs. Each team driving a local Tuk Tuk gets a road map and a daily navigational sheet, which they’ll use to get from A to B each day. Large Minority Travel UK Co-founder Jullian Carnall and Director Mark Van Rossum, , speaking to Daily News Business said that they organized the first ever tuk-tuk adventure around Sri Lanka in 2009 and it was a success.”

“Due to several issues we could not host some events in Sri Lanka but teams are ready to visit Sri Lanka next year and participate in their usual fashion. There was no major security or other concerns from participants to visit Sri Lanka now.”
