Alawathugoda Police arrested eight people yesterday (2) at around 1.00 am, for engaging in a ritual to dig up a treasure in a deserted house located in Dunuwila Medawatta Pandanton Estate of the Degaldoruwa Rajamaha Vihara. Among the suspects was a well-known kattadiya from the Matara area. Police also took into custody a cab and a car they are suspected to have arrived in.
The suspects were residents of Mirissa, Nikaweratiya, Katugastota and Ukuwela.
The police have also found a stock of goods including incense sticks, a mortar and pestle, white cloths, water pipes, mammoties and shovels at the place.
