Grateful monkey grieves for master

The story reported from the Thalankuda area in Batticaloa yesterday about a monkey who paid its last respects to a person who used to feed him by going to the cemetery has brought a tear to everyone’s eyes. A monkey who frequented the Thalankuda area of Batticaloa used to be fed by this person. The monkey bowed in respect before the body of this person and and cried.

Peethambaram Rajan, a 52-year-old resident of Thalankuda and father of two had been feeding a monkey who was roaming around in the forest, with biscuits and other food items.

The monkey who had been in the habit of coming to this person’s house every day to receive biscuits and food also provided joy to a disabled child who used to live in the house.

When the monkey had come to the house for food as usual and seen the body of its master realised the situation and started to cry while touching the feet of the person lying in the coffin. The monkey had then followed the cortege to the cemetery and paid his last respects there as well.
