No one can challenge supremacy of Parliament - Susil

No person or a group can establish a public assembly or any other institution similar to Parliament within the country,

Leader of the House Minister Susil Premajayantha said in Parliament yesterday (19).

Minister Premajayantha made this observation in a Special Statement at the beginning of the proceedings of the assembly.

Minister Premajayantha pointed out that there have been media reports stating that some groups are preparing to establish a People’s Assembly similar to Parliament.

The Minister said that even the House cannot establish such institutions and pointed out that the Parliamentarians are appointed according to the wishes of the people of the country.

He also noted that people can change their public representatives in elections.Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said that the matter will be referred to the Privileges Committee.
