Three Peradeniya University students suspended over attack

The Peradeniya University administration has decided to suspend the classes of three students of the Faculty of Arts yesterday, in connection with an attack on another group of students following a ragging incident.

According to University sources, a group of students consisting of 11 undergraduates, including female students of the Faculty of Law were allegedly assaulted by another group of undergraduates at the university’s Canteen.

The reason for the attack was that the students who were against ragging were having their meals in the canteen despite being warned by the pro-ragging students to refrain from doing so.

“Students who are against ragging have been banned from eating in the canteen by a group of students who are supported by certain political parties who are in favour of ragging in the university,” university sources said.

Following the attack, two male students and two female students of the Faculty of Law who were injured in the attack have been hospitalized.
