Navy apprehends eight would-be illegal immigrants in Pesalai

The Sri Lanka Navy apprehended eight individuals who were planning to illegally migrate by sea. The detection was made during a foot patrol conducted on the Kudiyiruppu Beach in Pesalai, Mannar on Tuesday night.

As a result of continuous naval patrols and search operations being conducted in coastal areas to prevent nefarious acts taking place via sea routes, this apprehension was made by SLNS Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command.

Accordingly, the naval personnel engaged in this beach patrol interrogated eight people who were found on the Kudiyiruppu Beach in a suspicious manner.

Among the apprehended persons were three males and two females over 18 years and three individuals below 18 years of age.

They are residents of Morawewa, Vavuniya, Jaffna and Point Pedro areas and they were handed over to the Pesalai Police for further action.
