Cigarettes increased with VAT hike

The prices of each category of cigarettes was increased by Rs.3, Rs.5, Rs.10 and Rs.15 respectively from yesterday (1).

This is in line with the increase of the Value-Added Tax (VAT) through the interim budget presented by President Ranil Wickremesighe on August 30.

Accordingly, the VAT was increased from 12% to 15% effective from September 1.
