Protests injure 105 persons, one critical

A total of 105 injured people had been admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo following the clashes that took place amidst the anti-government protests held in Colombo throughout the day on Saturday (9).

The casualties include the civil citizens, journalists and police and other security forces personnel, it was reported.

One person has been admitted to the hospital with gunshot injuries in his head in critical conditions. Of the admitted, 55 are still receiving further treatment at the hospital while the others have been discharged, hospital sources said.

Eleven journalists who were covering the protests and the related tense situations were hospitalized due to the tear gas attacks and for being brutally assaulted by the police and STF personnel despite wearing their official Media Accreditation Cards. One female journalist is also among them. As reported, five security personnel had been admitted to the National Hospital in Colombo while another 22 police officers had received treatment from the Police Hospital for minor injuries.
