Dehiwala Zoo’s 86th anniversary commemorated

The oldest tortoise in the Dehiwala zoo, which is more than 110 years old, according to the records, was offered with a fruit treat to mark the 86th anniversary of the Dehiwala Zoo during a simple ceremony held within the premises presided over by the Wild Life and Forest Conservation Ministry Secretary Chandra Herath.

The 86th anniversary of the Dehiwala Zoo was commemorated at the zoo premises presided over by the Wild Life and Forest Conservation Ministry Secretary Chandra Herath.

To mark the ceremony a fruit treat was offered to the oldest tortoise in the zoo, which is more than 110 years old, by the ministry secretary. During the simple ceremony held on July 3, two girls Gehansa Yapa, and Sithmi Raveesha from Sujatha Vidyalaya, Nugegoda and Defence Staff College-Colombo respectively, who named the three Bengali Tigers born in Sri Lanka three years ago too were awarded with gifts.
