Hand over Corona Medical Centre building complex to Mahapola Training Centre – Ports Minister

Ports, Shipping and Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva instructed the port authorities yesterday(June 4) to hand over the building complex located next to the harbour owned by the Ports Authority, which provided residential quarantine medical treatment and facilities for those infected with Corona virus during the height of the epidemic, to the Mahapola Training Centre. The trade union leaders pointed out in a recent discussion with the minister that maintaining this corona center is a waste of human resources and buildings because there is no corona epidemic at present.

Accordingly, the Minister, who visited the Corona Medical Centre yesterday morning, said, “Since the Mahapola Training Centre is currently facing a serious problem of space, lectures and trainings can be held for around two hundred at a time, and these buildings should be handed over to the Mahapola Training Centre as soon as possible.” Through this, the ability to train more young people in the country for jobs in the maritime sector will be a great strength for the country’s economy.”

While inspecting the dormitory for port workers the Minister said that it should be maintained in the same manner and that the hostel should be provided for those who come to Colombo from other ports and those from Jaya Container Terminal. The employees pointed out that only the residents living far away will be accommodated here and that 145 port workers will get residential facilities in this hostel.
