The annual Katargama Pada Yatra which was suspended for the last two years owing to Covid-19, is taking place this year and began at Thondamaanaaru Selvachnnithi Murugan Temple in Jaffna on Saturday (4) with the participation of a large number of pilgrims from all walks of life.

The pilgrimage will cover three provinces (North, East and Uva) and seven districts (Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara and Moneragala) with a distance of 572 km, lasting 52 days. Veteran pilgrim Veluswamy Maheswaran has been looking after and successfully arranging the pilgrimage for the last 15 years.

Pilgrims participated in the ceremonial commencement of the programme with special pooja and set off on their pilgrimage with the chanting of ‘Aro Haraa’. The pilgrimage will end after 52 days of devotional walk, even through jungles, and pilgrims will participate in the Katargama Theethotsavam Festival and water cutting ceremony.
