General Shavendra Silva appointed Chief of Defence Staff

Army Commander Gen. Shavendra Silva received his appointment letter as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at President's House yesterday. He relinquished duties as the Army Commander yesterday.

Acting Chief of Defence Staff General Shavendra Silva assumes duties as the new Chief of Defence Staff with effect from today (June 01).

The official letter in the regard was handed over by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to General Silva at President’s House, Colombo, yesterday (31).

Former Army Commander and Acting Chief of Defence Staff General Silva has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff following the relinquishment of his office as the Army Commander today (31).
