UKRAINE, RUSSIA, US: Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Valery Gerasimov and US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Mark Milley held a phone call to discuss issues of mutual interest, including the situation in Ukraine.

The phone conversation between Russia-US took place on Thursday, Xinhua news agency reported.

The conversation was initiated by the American side, the Russian Defence Ministry said in a brief statement, without providing details.Last week, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and US Secretary of Defence, Lloyd Austin discussed the situation in Ukraine during their first phone conversation since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday said Russian forces had "completely destroyed" the eastern Donbas region and accused Moscow of carrying out senseless bombardments as it intensified its offensive.

"In the Donbas, the occupiers are trying to exert even more pressure. It is hell there - and that is not an exaggeration," he said in a late night video address.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin's daughter Katerina Tikhonova, a former acrobatic dancer, is apparently in a relationship with a Munich-based ballet dancer Igor Zelensky, unrelated to the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, though the duo share the same surname. Putin's daughter and Igor Zelensky might also have a child. Between 2018 and 2019, Putin's daughter flew to Munich more than 50 times, a joint investigation by independent Russian media outlet iStories and German magazine Der Spiegel has revealed. Every time, Katerina flew on state chartered flights in the company of employees from Putin's own presidential security service. - THE HINDUSTAN TIMES, IANS
