New SL Pole Vault record from Sachini Perera

Sri Lanka Army athlete Sachini Perera improved her own Sri Lanka national record with a leap of 3.65 meters to win the women’s pole vault senior title at the first selection trial of the Asian Games which started at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday. Sachini broke her own record of 3.60 meters which she established last November at the Army Athletic championship. W.I.U Silva of Sri Lanka Navy (3.40m) and S.D Ranasinghe (Sri Lanka Air Force (3.30m) were placed second and third at the women’s pole vault event.

Meanwhile, Amasha de Silva of Army once again became the fastest woman when she finished first placed at women’s 100m race with a time of 11.63 seconds while Rumeshika Ratnayake made a good battle to fished second with 11.68 seconds. Third place was won by Army’s Shafiya Yamic with 11.82 seconds. Chamod Yodasinghe made a close finish to win the 100 men’s senior first place while C.S. Dharmakeerthi came second (both recorded 10.53 seconds) while S.D Sanjaya who finished with 10.54 seconds named as third in this race which made very close competition among three sprinters. Ayesh Mihiranga of Mahinda College Galle won the 100m junior event with 10.91 seconds.

The promising athlete Tharushi Karunaratne represented Sri Lanka schools was placed first at 400m women’s with 56.17 seconds while experienced Kalinga Kumarage won the men’s senior 400m event with 47.00 seconds. S.A.T Dasan of Army won the men’s senior high jump with 2.08m while B.R.I.U Kumara was placed second with 2.04m. National champion Nadeeka Lekamge was able to win the women’s javelin throw event with a distance of 53.66m while experienced Nadeeka Lakmali had to be satisfied with second place with 5013m.

The second day of the selection trials will be continued today.
