Death of actor Gamini Ambalangoda

Veteran actor Gamini Ambalangoda passed away on Sunday, January 9 at his home in Elkaduwa, Thalingamada following a brief illness. He was 69.

Gamini Ambalangoda had been involved in Gammadu and puppetry at a rural level and later contributed to stage dramas, teledramas and films. Ambalangoda's performances include Raja Kapuru, Rajagaha Nadagama, Kalagola, Tharawo Igilethi, Kaluwara Gedara, Swayanjatha, Katu Imbula, Saradiel, Niyangwarusa Chess Avathara, Veyo Natya, Abuddassakale Kolama, Sigala Gostare, Nonchi Kolama and Sabhapathi. He joined the National Youth Services Council and studied dance and music at Bellwood and was a veteran performer.

Gamini Ambalangoda was born in Ambalangoda in 1955. He obtaining his initial education at Ambalangoda Kalu-Udumulla Junior School and then at Devananda Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda. The funeral took place at the Matale Municipal Council Crematorium at 4 p.m. yesterday (11).
