SLPP backbenchers seek appointment with President over fertilizer issue

The backbenchers of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have requested an appointment with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to discuss the problems related to fertilizer, SLPP MP Tissa Kuttiarachchi said.

He said that a collective letter signed by 40 MPs was submitted to the President in this regard.

“We are not against the organic agriculture policy. However, there should be a proper mechanism to supply adequate fertilizer to farmers without delay. If it is organic fertilizer, then state the timeframe and what organic fertilizer can be used as a substitute for each commonly used chemical fertilizer type. When we get to know the details, we can convey the message easily to the farmers and other ground level authorities. We hope the President will give us an audience within a couple of days,” he said.
