State Minister Channa Jayasumana today urged all those above 30 who have not got vaccinated yet to get the jab within next week.
This is to make way for expediting the vaccination drive for the 15-19 and 20-29 age groups. The Minister invited all above 20 to visit the nearest vaccination centre as soon as possible and get the vaccine. Those who are due to get the second dose should also visit the centres on the given dates.
“All the vaccines are safe and effective and there is no reason to delay getting the vaccine,” a Health Ministry spokesman said. He urged youth and others not to be misled by certain anti-vaccine myths circulating on social media.
The Government had targeted to end the over 30s vaccination drive this week but has decided to keep the centres open for this age group for some more time to accommodate those who have not got the jab so far.
