The three Commemorative Stamps, First Day and Commemorative leaflets issued for the National Vesak Festival were presented to Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday (12) by Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella.

This year’s National Vesak Festival was scheduled to be held at the historic Nagadeepa Raja Maha Viharaya in Nagadeepa, in the Northern Province.

Hence the pictures of the historic Buddhist temples in the North and East are depicted in the stamps presented yesterday. Arts created using the Sapumaldagaskada Temple in Vavuniya, Kaduruwagada Temple in Jaffna and Madukanda Temple of the Tooth in Vavuniya by Palith Gunasinghe have been depicted in these commemorative stamps in the Rs.10.00, Rs 15.00 and Rs 45.00 denominations Ven Maha Sanga including Chief Incumbent of Gangaramaya Ven Kirinde Assaji Thera, Minister G. L. Peiris,

State Minister Ajith Nivard Cabral, the Prime Minister’s Secretary Gamini Senarath, Secretary to Buddhasasana, religious and Cultural Ministry Prof. Kapila Gunawardena, Buddhist Affairs Commissioner General Sunanda Kariyapperuma, Buddhasasana Ministry Director Champika Kaneru, Post Master General Ranjith Ariyaratne and Deputy Post Master General Rajitha K Ranasinghe also participated the event.
