Lyricist of Sinhala songs D.C Jayasinghe (89) passed away.
He had written many popular songs including Ane Dingak Innako, sung by C.T Fernando. Jayasinghe, who had been a teacher at St. Joseph's College, Colombo for 37 years, also served as the Principal of the Junior and Senior Secondary sections of the same school.After retiring, Jayasinghe contributed Sinhala and English articles to newspapers and worked as a sub-editor of
The Messenger, a Catholic newspaper.He had authored several books such as Kithunu Sinhala Nam, Pavulé Haula and
Samaja Sangvidaanaya. He also served as the Administrative Secretary of the Lay Commission of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Sri Lanka.The last rites of D.C Jayasinghe, a father of five, will be held at the Hendala Catholic Cemetery, Nayakakanda on Monday, May 3 at 3.30 pm.
