The Health Promotion Bureau (HPB) of the Ministry of Health has urged the public to act responsibly to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus by adhering to guidelines issued by the health authorities.
Issuing a COVID-19 warning on Tuesday (20) night, the HPB stated that there has been an increase in the number of coronavirus patients detected in Sri Lanka over the past few days and there has been a rapid increase in the number of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Units (ICUs).
The HPB further stated that new variants of the virus had been detected in Sri Lanka in the recent past and the scientific data review on this is currently underway.
“We have all seen in the past that the spread of disease can be controlled very quickly by following preventive measures. The gradual decline in following these health guidelines over the past festive season has undoubtedly led to the creation of this new vulnerability,” HPB said.
“It would be timely to recall our responsibility for disease prevention as a society to avoid resorting to actions such as the imposition of stricter laws and restrictions on travel.
These preventative measures include keeping hands clean, wearing masks, keeping people away, avoiding crowded places, and avoiding crowded places if you have symptoms such as cough, sore throats, or cold.”
