Clubs show anger over conducting of Pre-League

The 10 clubs participating in the Pre-League Football Tournament have collectively shown their displeasure at the way the ongoing tournament is being conducted.

They have conveyed the same by a letter to Football Sri Lanka (FSL) earlier this week.

The 10 clubs, namely Blue Eagles SC, Blue Star SC, Colombo FC, Defenders SC, New Young FC, Red Star SC, Renown SC, Ratnam SC, Sea Hawks SC and Up-country Lions SC have signed this letter citing their displeasure on various aspects, including the ad-hoc inconsistent policies in conducting the tournament and adopting a poor management structure which does not do justice to a professional league or any reputed organisation.

The letter further states there have been ad-hoc resignations, no responsible personnel, and sudden changes in rules and regulations in the middle of the pre-season, which has resulted in clubs losing the trust and confidence they had in the FSL.

The clubs, tagged under ‘United Super League Clubs’, have urged FSL to call for an urgent meeting with them with the participation of the relevant FSL officials, where they have placed the tournament in a vulnerable position.

Whilst making this request, they further state they seek a professional management team to ensure this professional tournament functions without any further hindrance, while the clubs don’t lose confidence jeopardise the future of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Anura de Silva, President of FSL said: “We received the said letter and are meeting those clubs along with responsible parties today. We will hear their grievances as to how we could overcome these issues to run the tournament without any hiccups in the future.”
