No country can interfere in our internal affairs - Prasanna

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said yesterday that no country has the right to interfere in Sri Lanka’s internal affairs. The Government will not allow any infringement into the country’s sovereignty or territorial integrity.

The Minister was responding to the question raised by a group of journalists on the statement made by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb that India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is allegedly planning to set up a political unit in Sri Lanka.

Ranatunga alleged that it is a well known fact that the former Yahapalana Government came to power with the help of certain foreign forces. “Therefore, the former Government had to act according to the dictates of these forces. However, some people have a wrong notion to think that the present Government is also like that. But, they are sadly mistaken,” the Minister said.

“The country is still subject to influences from various forces locally and internationally. But we are a very strong Government and we have the strength and foresight to face any challenge from any force,” he added.

He further said that Sri Lanka’s electoral law does not permit overseas political parties to work here.
