Director of Sports attached to the Education Ministry Daya Bandara has instructed all school Principals and Heads of National Colleges of Education in a circular that all sports meets, sports programmes and sports festivals that were previously scheduled to be held this year (2020) be cancelled with immediate effect due to the existing COVID-19 pandemic situation.
“We have to seek the permission of the Health authorities prior to the conducting of sports events. Hence, we have left with no time by now to start any sports programmes during this year. That is why the Ministry of Education took this decision to cancel all the proposed sports events in schools,” Bandara has informed all school heads in his circular.
