The Indian CEO Forum paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday and expressed strong confidence in the ability of the Sri Lankan economy to bounce back.

President Indian CEO Forum Umesh Gautam, noted that Sri Lanka has persevered through adversity in the past and the economy has always proven to be resilient.

The current economic situation compounded by the effects of the global pandemic have resulted in a need for job opportunities for those returning to Sri Lanka, those who have lost their jobs and those who are entering the job market.

The Indian CEO Forum has committed to seek out large scale BPO investments from India and have already reached out to several such institutions.

“Furthermore, this pandemic has caused a significant loss in foreign exchange as remittances and tourism receipts were impacted.”

In light of these facts, the Indian CEO forum has identified the BPO space as a key driver to create service driven export earnings and an important source for employment generation that can be flexible, and quickly deployed.

Investment from India accounts for some of the first sources of Foreign Direct Investment into the country and continues to play an integral part to support the economy by way of bringing huge investments into the country, generating export earnings and employment opportunities, and critical tax receipts into the government coffers.

The Indian CEO Forum is the preeminent body for Indian Investment in Sri Lanka, whose objective is to promote and contribute to the prosperity of the country through economic co-operation and representation of Indian Investment.

The Indian CEO Forum represents a broad spectrum in industrial activity from automobiles, petroleum, tyres, infrastructure, packaging, banking, pharmaceuticals, FMCG, media, logistics, dairy and cement to name a few.
