Transporting passengers according to the number of seats available in buses will be a law in the future.
Passenger Transport Management Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said they had taken a decision to limit the number of passengers to the number of seats available in buses and trains to maintain the one meter distance between passengers as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"However, this decision will further extended considering the safety and the comfort of passengers and it would become a law in the future," the Minister added.
The Minster expressing his views to the media said that every passenger who obtains a ticket has a right to sit comfortably and travel safely till the destination.
"However no government in the past took measures to preserve these rights of commuters,"he said. But, the present government on the instructions of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is committed to protect the rights of commuters as well as providing a qualitative and safe transport service to the people.
