Two dead in private bus collision

A 11-year-old child and a woman were killed and 43 others injured in a head-on collision between two private buses on the A-9 road near the Nalanda school in Matale at around 6.45 am yesterday.

The accident occurred when a bus carrying pilgrims to Adam’s Peak from Dambulla and heading towards Matale had collided head on with another bus travelling in the opposite direction.

According to the Police Media Division, 43 passengers who had sustained injuries in the collision had been admitted to the Naula, Dambulla and Matale hospitals.

Seven critically injured passengers were transferred to the Matale District General Hospital.

The 11-year-old victim is a resident of Dambulla while the identity of the deceased female has not been established as yet. Naula Police is investigating.
