This Veterans T20 tournament for over 50-year-olds was a longstanding dream of Mahes de Zoysa. It became a reality when he spoke of his dream to Senarath Alwis - former Director Physical Education, University of Colombo, around November 2019.
Senarath was able to convince State Services, Nationalised Services and Mercantile Cricket Association to field an Over 50 Veterans and create a Quadrangular Tournament for the Dr. R. A. H. de Zoysa Memorial Trophy, with hosts Colombo Masters Cricket Association, making up the fourth team.
The inaugural edition was concluded successfully in February 2019, with Colombo Masters getting a walkover from Nationalised Services in the final, to become champions.
Singer Sri Lanka PLC, courtesy of Kumar Samarasinghe - Marketing Director came forward as the main sponsor and supported Colombo Masters to conduct the matches.
The second edition of the tournament kicked off on 8 January 2020 at Bloomfield, followed by matches on 14 January at Mercantile Cricket Association and 18 January at NSCA Grounds, Ratmalana.
