Kingswood-Wesley clash at football for Kenneth de Lanerolle Memorial Shield

Kingswood College Kandy one of the first schools to take up football will play Wesley College in the Kenneth de Lanerolle Memorial Shield game on November 8 at Colombo Racecourse grounds.

This shield was introduced in 2018, and in the inaugural shield game Kingswood won 4-1.

Both schools should remember the great service rendered by Kenneth de Lanerolle. product of Richmond College who served both schools initially as vice principal during the post world war II period which was an important transition phase at Kingswood from 1958 to 1967, and then again as acting Principal at Wesley in 1984 and 1988. He passed away in May 2001 and the school authorities decided to honor him with this football fixture, the inaugural game was played last year on November 28 in Kandy.

Before the senior game a junior boys match and an Old Boys match will be played. The winner of the under 12 game will receive the Nalaka Weerakoddi trophy, the under 14 winners will receive the Old Kingswoodians Sports Club Challenge Trophy, the Under 16 winner will receive the Esanka Jayasooriya Memorial Trophy and the winners of the old boys game will receive the Dunstan Fernando Memorial Challenge Trophy.
