The Police Special Task Force (STF) based on a tip-off had raided an illegal toddy brewery and arrested the person who was operating it in Kaluamodara in Aluthgama, Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
The STF had arrested the suspect involved in the production illicit toddy identified as 53-year-old Sinhara Sudath Kumara de Silva. The STF had also seized 83,000 liters of toddy found at the illicit brewery.
The 53-year-old owner of the brewery has been operating the illicit toddy brewery without a valid permit.
The Police Media Spokesman said that the suspect and the seized alcohol are to be handed over to the Aluthgama Excise officials.
A sample of the toddy has also been sent to the Government Analyst’s Department to determine if the toddy produced at this illicit brewery it is artificial toddy.
