“Technical colleges in Karuwalagaswewa in Puttalam and Anamaduwa and a marine university in Puttalam will be inaugurated soon,” Parliamentarian Palitha Range Bandara said.
He was addressing the gathering after commissioning a new building for the Puttalam Zainab Girls’ Primary School on September 9. The building was set up under “The nearest school is the best school,” programme of the government.
MP Palitha Range Bandara said that around 750 teacher appointments will be given in Puttalam very soon. “Then the shortage of teachers in the district will be resolved,” he said.
He said that over 500 schools have been developed under ‘The nearest school is the best school’ programme. “The government gives priority to education and to resolve issues of the poor,” he said.
“Puttalam has around 207 Tamil and Sinhala schools. Of them, only 37 were initially selected for implementing development projects. However, around 108 schools were finally included in the project,” he said.
“White vans reached houses and carried away residents without valid reasons in the previous regime. Many of them did not return. But now, if you call 1990, ambulances will arrive in minutes to save your lives. These are the differences between the previous and the present,” he said.
“We reduced prices of fuel, increased wages and salaries and provided jobs. Still we were questioned as to what we have done to the nation,” he said.
“The public pay tax to the government. Therefore, we should serve them in return. We cannot just sit in parliament since we are there to serve the public,” he said.
