Held over smuggling heroin into prison

A person who attempted to supply narcotics hidden in fried dry fish, to the inmates of Galle Prison was apprehended by a group of prison officers on Saturday.

The suspect was identified as Kasthuri Nishantha Kumar of Kurunduwatta, Meetiyagoda in Ambalangoda and prisons officers detected 1,230mg of heroin in his possession.

The drug trafficker had tried to smuggle drugs hidden in fried dry fish to be given to prison inmates. The prison officers under the directions of Galle Prison Superintendent Jagath Chandana Weerasinghe handed over the suspect to the Galle Police.

The Wellawaya Police are conducting further investigations.
