Plans were afoot to turn the Mirijjawila export processing zone in Hambantota into a multinational investment zone, an investor said.
He said the construction work of a greenfield refinery, a Chinese cement factory, and a cement bagging plant, would bring in around USD 4 billion—the highest ever foreign direct investment.
The oil refinery project is a foreign Joint Venture between Singapore and Oman. The total investment in this project is USD 3.385 billion and the refinery plant is to be built on a 200-acre land.
The Mirijjawila export processing zone consists of industrial plots spread across 338 acres of land.
