Hereafter, no island ranks will be issued in relation to the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination and Ordinary Level Examination by the Examinations Department, Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said.
Accordingly, the result sheet will only include whether the candidate has passed or failed, but not their island rank.
The Minister added that countries which have the most advanced education systems do not encourage issuing the ranks of students since it negatively affects them.
“Most of the students suffer a lot since the Grade 5 Scholarship and Ordinary Level Examinations are crucial,” the Minister said.
“Grading students based on their performances is unnecessary and therefore, a committee has already been appointed by the Minister to look into that. Once the committee makes the recommendations, the measures will be taken to stop issuing students’ ranks in the future,” he added.
