The highest number of dengue cases has been reported from the Galle Municipality, while Hikkaduwa Elpitiya, Habaraduwa, Akmeemana, and Balapitiya have been recognized as high-risk zones by the health authorities, said Southern Province Governor Keerthi Tennakoon.
The Governor revealed this at a discussion on dengue control held with health officers and local government and defence authorities at the Governor’s Secretariat auditorium.
To face this situation, a combined dengue control programme by the Southern Provincial Council, Education Ministry, Health Ministry and Police is needed. Dengue mosquito breeding sites have been mostly detected at private residences. Authorities have also found many such spots at schools, and construction sites, he said.
Vigorous public participation is essential for the success of dengue control and prevention strategies launched by the authorities, the Governor said.
