Razor-sharp confidence

Girls’ High School, Kandy:

Persistent, steady, undaunted and resolute describe Girls’ High School Head Prefect Charundya Sathsarani Senevirathne perfectly. Perfect Prefects features Senevirathne who fears no evil.

Senevirathne has been raised amongst women of strong and bold character. These women have instilled and drilled in her what a woman is and what she is capable of achieving. These women have taught her not to fear evil and to be strong.

“We are proud of our alma mater who have taught us a lot about who a woman is and what she is capable of. Our dark blue sisterhood has taught us to guard against evil eyes,” said Senevirathne

A fierce competitor and an unyielding achiever, the Sisterhood of Girl’s High School has taught her to be a leader who can light a lamp in the hearts of others making them dream what she envisions. She has this calmness about her, backed by confidence in her powers making others feel confident around her.

Commitment

“A leader should have an understanding of fellow team members, self –discipline, an understanding of the skills & weaknesses of others, proper management and planning. She needs to be responsible, should be strong and courageous. She should have self-confidence displaying commitment and dedication.

And most importantly should have the ability to work with the team leading her women to victory. By exhibiting the following characteristics she will be capable of leading a student population,” said Senevirathne.

Senevirathne emphasized the important role of women in society saying that we must all be concerned about the rights of the girl child. According to Senevirathne, leadership does not require superhuman abilities. All you need is proper planning in order to make the mission a success.

Senevirathne has oiled her engine well. Girl’s High School has a highly systematized structure of authority. She can depend on her girls to rally around her and deliver the goods.

“A school senior committee of our proud alma mater comprises of 50 committee members along with four head prefects. When we face difficult obstacles, the four head prefects & four senior house captains discuss the problem and analyze it in order to find primary solutions. By this method we identify the inner core of the problem and understanding the actual situation. By getting a good idea about the issue, we talk about the problem with our other committee members and come up with any secondary solutions. After the solutions are confirmed we will inform the teacher in charge of the senior committee and next the school administration about it,” explained Senevirathne.

Positivity

As mentioned above Senevirathne is a confidence generator. Her confidence is infectious. You immediately want to work for her. When it comes to decision making she is razor sharp. She may not get it 100 percent but her positivity is admirable and this is why everyone wants to be on her side.

“If we are confident about ourselves we can make the correct decisions in quick time. When we are doing a task or organizing any activity, a sudden problem may arise at any time. At those moments we may be unable to seek guidance. Then as a leader I have to take quick decisions in order to prevent the situation from getting worse due to the influence of other parties. Sometimes the decision might not be hundred percent correct, but the experience is worth it,” stated Senevirathne

To serve society is her ultimate ambition. To uplift the living conditions of the under-privileged and to make this country a better place to live in, is her yearning.

“I am mostly in to sports. I am a proud senior Netball player having achieved success in all age groups. Becoming a Netball player has helped me a lot in developing my character.

Supportive

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the fellow members of the senior netball team and past sisters of all netball teams. My success as a leader is because of the vital and supportive role they have played in my life. By engaging in sports I have gained the ability to make quick decisions, face challenges, learn how to work as a team and concentrate,” added Senevirathne.

Senevirathne advocates a combination of intellect and emotion when it comes to someone who dreams about being a leader. Aim for the stars she says. It is all about the effort and your will power. Ambition is fine.

“Use your brain more than that of your heart, but never forget to cultivate humane qualities because you need them as a good leader. Always try to achieve the next thing closer to you, which can finally pave the way for you to achieve your goals. Then you will find success & happiness. Even though all of us are not perfect, at least trying to be perfect will make a better society with good and educated leaders,” said Senevirathne.

Senevirathne has simple tips for facing pressure. Facing pressure can benefit you in the long term making you a stronger person.

“If you can take a break, temporarily withdraw to a quiet place or environment. Listening to music, have a snack, share what you are going through with your close friends, pet your animal or focus on nature helps. Be patient and change the focus point,” said Senevirathne.

“I would like to thank my parents and my brother, the Madam Principal, Deputy Principals, Assistant Principals, Sectional Heads, Master in Charge of Prefects & Present Master in charge of Netball, all the other teachers, Coach of Netball, other head prefects, senior committee members, past committee members and my dear sisters of Girl’s High School Kandy.”
