A underaged girl who tried to go to Qatar for domestic work illegally on forged papers was detained at the BIA by Immigration Officers yesterday morning. An agency which has even not registered

with the Foreign Employment Bureau has prepared forged documents to send her for domestic work in Qatar illegally.

Women over 21 are only permitted for domestic service in Qatar. But this girl is a 20-year-old resident from the Moratuwa area. This young woman had arrived at the BIA at around 10.30 am yesterday to board the Qatar Airways flight KR-665 departing for Doha, Qatar.

She had come to the Immigration Counter for her emigration after completing the airline clearance necessary for the departure of this flight and has even submitted her documents.

Although she has a visa required to go abroad to work in Qatar, the certificates related to registration with the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau required to leave the country for the job, the employment agreement made with the Qatar’s employment agent and the certificate obtained after completion of the training at the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau were not in her possession.During the interrogation, it was revealed that a woman had taken her to BIA. It has also been revealed that this girl had given Rs.21,500 to the woman who brought her to the airport. It is special that this girl was not detained by the officials of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau when she entered the departure terminal of the airport to leave for work. The arrested girl has been handed over to the Sri Lankan Foreign Employment Bureau at the BIA by the Immigration Officers for further investigation.
