The Ahungalla Police has seized a motorcycle yesterday (10) night, suspected to have been used in the shooting incident that took place near the Ahungalla Bodhiya on Thursday.
The motorcycle was discovered by the police hidden in a cinnamon field in the Polathukanda area of Ahungalla. The shooting was carried out by two unidentified gunmen who arrived on a scooter on Thursday morning and fled.
The person, who was injured by the gunshots is suspected to be a relative of the criminal gang member “Loku Pattie”, he was admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital for treatment.
Meanwhile, another suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting incident that killed a person in Weligama. The shootings were carried out on January 04 with a T56 firearm and a pistol, targeting five people travelling on the Mahanaviya Road in Weligama.
The 29-year-old suspect who is a resident of Beliatta was arrested in the Matara area on Thursday (09) evening by the Matara Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau.
Further investigations revealed that this suspect was the person who drove the car used by the suspects who carried out the shooting to escape. The car used in the crime has been taken into police custody based on information revealed by the suspect.
Previously, two suspects, a male and a female had been arrested for aiding and abetting the suspects involved in the shooting.
