The Department of Meteorology forecasts showers or thundershowers at times in the Northern, North-Central, Eastern, Uva, and Central provinces today (11).

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100mm is anticipated in some areas of the Eastern, Uva and Central provinces, as well as the Polonnaruwa district.

Showers or thundershowers are also expected in several other areas during the afternoon or night, with fairly heavy rainfall above 75mm likely in parts of the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and the Galle, Matara, and Kurunegala districts.

Fairly strong winds of 30-40 kmph may occur at times in the Northern, Eastern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces, and in the Hambantota district. Misty conditions are likely during the morning in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Central provinces, and in the Galle and Matara districts.

The general public is advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate damages caused by temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
