The Government, which came to power with a large two-thirds mandate, should now take steps to fulfill the promises it made, instead of criticising opponents, SJB MP Gayantha Karunathilake said.

“Even though 100 days have passed since the last Presidential election, none of their promises have been fulfilled so far. You’ve spent a lot of time without doing anything,” he said.

The Government promised the public that it would remove the unfair tax burden placed on the people. It also promised it would remove several taxes imposed on fuel. They even showed the people how to reduce electricity bills. But nothing has been done yet, even after 100 days.

But the previous Yahapalana regime fulfilled many promises before even 100 days had passed. During that time we have been able to increase the salaries of public sector employees by Rs.10,000. We also took steps to reduce electricity tariff by 25 percent and reduced the price of fuel. Prices of 13 essential items were also reduced.
